Nicaragua One Day Tour

The main attraction of this tour is Great Lake of Nicaragua, a freshwater lake located in Nicaragua with an extension of over 8,624 km² (3330 mi²) and called"The Sweet Sea" by Spaniards who visited this land hundreds of years ago. Lake Nicaragua is the second largest lake in Latin America and is the only place in the world where freshwater sharks are found. It is also known for its large number of islands, including 3 main islands (Solentiname, Ometepe, and Zapatera), 400 islets, and 2 volcanoes.

The tour starts at about 6:00 a.m. as we head to Los Chiles on the northern border of Costa Rica, once the immigration procedures are completed, our Nicaraguan Transport will be waiting for us for a scenic trip to San Carlos de Nicaragua Through the Santa Fe Bridge that crosses the San Juan River which serves as a border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Once in San Carlos, we will take a short historical tour to visit the city streets, the Fortress, the viewpoint,and Malecon.

Next, we will board a speedboat to head to the Solentiname Archipelago which has 36 islands which have natural, cultural, archaeological, and historical riches and has been declared a Nicaraguan National Monument. We will visit 2 of the islands called Zapote and Zapotillo or popularly known as "Bird Island" where we can see countless birds such as cormorants, herons,pelicans, pink spoonbills, ospreys, among others. Later, we will visit another of the islands called San Fernando to savor a traditional Nicaraguan lunch with the option of fresh fish from the lake as the main course.

After lunch we will take a short boat trip to reach the Mancarron Island, known to be the largest and most important of the archipelago. In Mancarron, we will walkthrough the town visiting points of interest such as the Archaeological Museum With unique pieces found on the island, The Farm Church "The Refuge"known for its great history and which has been of inspiration for great creative greats such as the writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the singer Carlos Mejía Godoy and the poet Ernesto Cardenal. During the tour we can visit some workshops dedicated to woodcarving to create unique crafts and paintings.Finally, we will return to Costa Rica.
