Sloth Watching Tour & Arenal Volcano by Arenal Lake

After breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel at the reserved time to begin this exciting journey to Sloth Territory, located within a small family ecological project just 5 minutes from La Fortuna. The project has a 1.5km (1 mi) trail that is suitable for adults, families, and children of all ages. The tour of approximately 2 hours will take us through amazing flora, alongside a river bordering the property, and of course to the Guarumo trees; the favorite food of these emblematic animals. During the tour, we will stress the importance of sloth protection, due to its growing popularity, illegal trade of this species has increased significantly, which is why Ecoterra Expeditions, together with the Rodriguez family, work to preserve a privileged space for their protection. Our specialized guides are experts in finding them, so we can guarantee their observation. We must remember that the sloth is a solitary animal and that most of its time it is sleeping or resting in the treetops. During The tour, you can observe two types of sloths: Two-toed sloth and the three-toed sloth. If we are lucky we will be able to observe a mother with her baby; a thrilling experience.

At 2:30pm our guide pick you up at your hotel, the tour begins with a 20-minute drive from the hotel to the Peninsula section of the National Park, near Lake Arenal. Here we will begin a 1.5 km (1 mi) long walk along an easy trail for about an hour. Throughout the tour you can enjoy excellent views overlooking Lake Arenal and the Tilaran Volcanic Mountain Range in the observation bays that are found along the trail. At the end of the walk, we will have the opportunity to climb to the observation platform of approximately 12 meters (40 ft) high for a closer and amazing view of the volcano, and receiving a full explanation of its history, activity cycles, and geological formation among other relevant data.At the end of the trail, we will enjoy a snack of fresh fruit before taking our boat for a tour along the forested shores of Lake Arenal and islets to try to find some animals. This is the ideal place to take scenic photographs of the volcano, if it is clear. After about 45 minutes, the boat docks in the sector of the Arenal Dam. At the end of the day, the perfect place to relax will be at the Arenal Paradise Hot Springs including a dinner served at the Hot springs Restaurant. At about 9:00 pm you will be picked up to return to the hotel.
